We are part of a movement for children and young people, open to everyone from birth to adult.

Woodcraft Folk offers a place where children will grow in confidence, learn about the world and start to understand how to value our planet and each other.

Stroud Valleys Woodcraft Folk has, for over 30 years, offered families in Stroud, Stonehouse, Dursley, Painswick and Nailsworth a number of groups for children to meet, play, learn and develop personal and community skills.

Age groups

We have several active groups which are organised by age group and run by family members.

Woodchips

Aged five and under, Woodchips are our youngest Woodcraft Folk members. Local groups offer a range of fun and family-friendly activities that introduce children to working together in a group.

Elfins

Ranging in age from six to nine, Elfins is where many young people start their Woodcraft Folk journey. A varied programme of activities helps Elfin-age children discover their local environment, learn to co-operate, and express their opinions.

Pioneers

Pioneers are aged between ten to twelve. As their knowledge and understanding of the world increases, activities are geared towards helping them think critically and become more independent.

Venturers (inactive)

We currently do not host a Venturers group, for young people aged from thirteen to fifteen, but expect it to restart as current and new members join.

District Fellowship

District Fellowship, or DFs, is for young people aged sixteen to twenty. Many DFs volunteer their time to support activities for younger age groups, whether that’s running a local Elfin group or planning a national Venturer camp. They self-organise residential trips, camps, campaigns and workshops on a UK-wide level, overseen by the members elected each year to the DF Committee.

We are glad to welcome new families and volunteers to our group.

We offer free sessions so children and their families can experience what Woodcraft Folk feels like and to chat with existing members about any specific issues.
